2016 Spring Season

We had a great 2016 Spring Bear Season!

It can take hours of glassing to find the right one, but when you do, it is worth it!

Here is Marc Hansen with his last day 9’5″ and 26 7/16″ B&C Kodiak Brown Bear!

It isn’t all just glassing for bears though, lots of wildlife to see through the spotting scope.

And some to see without the spotting scope!

Chris Jahnke took this great 9’7″ and 27″ B&C Bear!

Mark Richards with Registered Guide Cabot Pitts, took this beautiful 9’8″ and 28″ B&C Bear!

Mark and Cabot were actually chasing an even bigger bear that they watched kill this 10 year old billy, when they go to the goat kill, the big boar was gone, but they were able to salvage the billy’s horns. On the way back to camp from the stalk, they ran into the bear in the photo above, and decided to “settle” for a 9’8″ boar, with a “booner” head!

We watched this big boar romancing an 8 foot sow all day.  Too bad he had just a little too much rub in the saddle.

Lew Groth with his first day, “Feather-In-The-Cap” bear!  Our biggest bear of the spring, 10’4″ and 28 10/16 B&C!  Lew was guided by Assistant Guide Chris Osbekoff and Master Guide Dick Rohrer.

Lew’s bear was an old one, just check out those teeth!

  And a perfect hide!

Guiding bear hunters isn’t all easy work, here Master Guide Dick Rohrer demonstrates that he still knows his way around a fleshing knife!

A big boar with a sow backed up under the cliff.

After pursuing the boar for 2 hours, we thought our chance was gone, and then the sow he was chasing turned and ran him right back up the mountain within 35 yards of us! Can you spot him in the alder patch?

It was an Epic Chase!

Mark Weaver and with his Guide Sam Rohrer and our spotter Chris, with Marks great bear, 9’7″ and 27 4/16″ B&C!

A couple happy guides headed home, after the days success!

An almost perfect hide on Mark’s bear.

Shaun Harris and his 9’10” and 27 1/16″ bear.

Shaun with Master Guides Dick Rohrer and Hiram Newcomer.

Dick and Hiram getting ready to take Lou out hunting on the last day of the season.  That is over 80 years of combined bear hunting experience right there!

2015 Fall Season

We had a great 2015 Fall Season

2015-11-11-16-03-34

We had lots of big bucks, a couple nice bears, and picked up a giant pickup bear skull that we stumbled into, that scores 29 11/16” B&C!

3

This is the kind of bear we are looking for, if he is not 10 foot, he is very close too it!  These tracks were made either the night before, or very early that morning.

4

Matt hiding out underneath the spotting tarp, waiting for the rain to quit.

5

Bear Hunting is challenging when the entire river valley is flooded out!

5a

While some of us are stuck out in spike camps, in the rain and the cold, some of the guys get to hang out at the base camp and celebrate Halloween in a warm dry cabin!

6

Eventually the weather cleared, and Matt was able to take this great buck that scored in the mid 100s!

7

An almost perfect 5X5!  Heavy and even! Notice the debris around his bases, he was in full rut!

8

Matt was also able to take this nice cross fox on the last day of his hunt, as we were headed back to the base camp.

9

Jason Bunch and the Currier clan from North Dakota!

10

Dave with a great mid-100s Buck!

11

Joe-Bill with a nice non-typical Buck!  It looks like Joe-Bill is frowning, but that is really his happy face!

12

Joe-Bill with another dandy, this time an even 5×5!

13

Dan with a great 4×5!

14

John with an exceptional 5×5, they just don’t come much better that this one!

15

Another exceptional buck, this one taken by Adam.

17

A break from deer hunting to do a little trophy duck hunting!

18

A successful day of duck hunting, immature Golden Eyes to eat, and beautiful drake Old Squaws, Harlequins, and Barrows Golden Eyes to mount!

16

The Currier clan with the trips harvest, it was an unbelievable week of deer hunting!

19

After all the weeks hard work, the guides are worn out and need a chance to rest.

20

But no time to rest when the bucks are in the rut, here is Greg with a nice even 5×5!

21

And another one of Greg with a dark and heavy 4×5! Not to mention an extremely big bodied buck.

22

Guides Hiram and Aaron posing with two great Canadians, Greg and Arnie.

23

35+ year Rohrer Bear Camp Guide, Hiram Newcomer admiring a dandy set of antlers!

24

Guide Jason Bunch and Joe with a beautiful furred Brown Bear!

25

Joe with his exceptional 4×5!

26

Jim with a tremendous 4×5!

28

Ralph with an extremely heavy 4×5!

 30

2 dandy bucks!

29

Hiram regaling the crew with stories at Thanksgiving Dinner.  Notice Hiram’s classy red tie!

32

Once the hunters have left, it is time for the kids to come out and play!

33

Running the Jet Boats!

34

Glassing for deer!

35

Trapping Big Silver Foxes!

36

Jason’s son, Dawson with a great Buck!

37

And packing it out!

We had a great fall season, but we didn’t get them all!  We left this giant on the hill and he is still running around out there getting bigger!

A bit of distance to go to get to them. But we lack cover to get up into the cliffs.

Out of nowhere a bit of fog rolled through and gave us the cover we needed to get to the ridge!

2015 Spring Bear Season

We had a great Spring Bear Season! We had great clients, great weather, and took some real nice bears! Following are some highlights!

image

Rohrer Bear Camp, this camp has been in continual operation since the early 1900s! And in the Rohrer name since ’82.

Hiram April 2015

Hiram and Gilbert with Gilberts 9 foot Brown Bear.

image

Doug’s nice boar. Perfect hide and beautiful day!

image

A little hard too see through my spotting scope, but that is a 9.5’+ Boar chasing a sow! We watched him breed the sow in that meadow a few minutes later.

image

Marty and Master Guide Dick Rohrer with Marty’s great boar. The boar squared over 10’4″ and had a 27 4/16″ B&C skull! We caught this old boar chasing a sow just off the beach. We walked into the sow at 35 yards and this old guy was right behind her. It was a pretty epic day, Marty and I have spent alot of days over the years hunting together for a bear like this, we earned this one!

image

image

No description necessary, just big!

image

Gareth with a great bear taken on the same day as Marty’s bear. This old guy squared 9’10” and the skull was 28 4/16″ B&C! A great bear with a perfect hide! Gareth’s guide was Aaron Pingree.

Another BIG bear through the spotting scope, he is over 10′!

Guide Cabot Pitts, Jens, and Urban with Urban’s nice boar!

After all the fun comes the work, well honestly fleshing is pretty fun too, as long as we have some Cash & Haggard playing in the background (which we always do!).

image

Nayo’s bear!

Hiram, Nayo, & Aaron in position, just waiting for the boar to show himself!
